General Description

This position is part of a coordinated team and exercises primary responsibility for providing essential analytical research services to the campus community to facilitate institutional research, planning, and effectiveness and to support the University’s mission of ensuring a high standard of excellence in programs and services. Failure to report with a great deal of reliability and validity and in a timely fashion may lead to erroneous information used for strategic planning and institutional effectiveness.

Essential Job Duties

• Develops and produces statistical and analytical reports in a wide variety of platforms;
• Interprets data from a variety of sources for presentation to varying audiences;
• Provides technical assistance in the area of educational research, trend analysis, and student enrollment analysis;
• Performs basic analysis and reports the results to the director; reviews reports;
• Collects and evaluates national, state, and local surveys of theoretical or validational studies including prerequisite research and assessment instrument validation;
• Conducts research and presents findings utilizing various forms of media;
• Prepares for the initial review of office research studies and projects;
• Updates annual and semester reports on the office’s website;
• Provides status reports on on-going projects;
• Solicits data via various means to support analytical studies;
• Defines, analyzes, plans, and implements solutions to improve operational efficiencies;
• Composes correspondence and generates reports;
• Performs related duties as required or assigned.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

• Exceptional data analysis skills and substantial knowledge of descriptive and inferential statistics (parametric and non-parametric) and their use and interpretation at institutions of higher education;
• Exceptional research methodology skills including research design, instrument design and validation, and theoretical model building;
• Exceptional communication skills in both speaking and writing;
• An ability to translate complex statistical language into language that can be readily understood by select lay people;
• High-level computer literacy and competence in Microsoft Office products, Banner, reporting software, statistical software (SAS preferred), and electronic publishing software;
• Skilled in gathering, compiling, verifying, organizing, and reporting data;
• Sensitivity and responsiveness to deadlines, priorities, and the need for flexibility and adaptability;
• High-quality interpersonal skills and positive attitude;
• Demonstrated ability to work with sensitive and confidential information;
• Demonstrate professional work ethic;
• Interest in professional growth and development;
• Ability to tolerate and thrive in a dynamic and demanding office environment;
• Capable of sustained, independent and high-level thought and action;
• Personal demeanor and deportment expected of a high-level professional who represents the Director and interacts with faculty, department chairs, directors, deans, and vice presidents.

Minimum Qualifications

• Completion of Bachelor’s degree required;
• Master’s degree preferred (completion of master’s degree within three years of employment, required);
• Three years of related experience required;
• Institutional Research/Effectiveness experience preferred.
